Council Members

The Governor appoints the Council's 31 members. Some are appointed because they are self/family advocates, some by virtue of their position in state government, and some as representatives of other organizations involved in this system. The Assembly and Senate each recommend one self/family advocate for appointment by the Governor. Information on applying to serve as a Governor's appointee is available through the Governor's Office. Click here for important additional information about State Council and Area Board appointments.

Under federal law, self/family advocates must comprise at least 60 percent of the Council membership. Federal law also specifies that consumer representation be a combination of self and family representatives. Since January 1, 2003, California law requires that 13 of the 19 self/family advocates be from the Area Boards on Developmental Disabilities (one from each "catchment area" served by the 13 area boards). Following are current members who have been appointed as self or family advocates on the Council:

molly

On January 25, 2012, Molly Kennedy was sworn in, by Patrick Henning from the Governor’s Appointments office, as a member of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities representing Area Board 13 on Developmental Disabilities that serves San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Molly has been an advocate for persons with disabilities for over 20 years. She has a Masters Degree in Public Administration and has been an administrator for programs that provide services to underserved populations. In this professional role she assisted in creating policies that improved health care access for individuals with disabilities.

The Council looks forward to Molly’s participation and representation of individuals with disabilities and Area Board 13.
