Developmental Disabilities Provider Network's Annual Legislative Breakfast

Meet legislators, make comments and voice concerns about services and support
for San Diego County residents with disabilities

In an effort to support people with disabilities and their families, Developmental Disabilities Provider Network (DDPN), San Diego Regional Center, Area Board XIII, People First and Exceptional Family Resource Center will host the 6th Annual Legislative Breakfast on Friday, April 9th from 7:30am to 9:00am at the San Diego Hilton Resort & Spa in Mission Bay. This breakfast gives people affected by disabilities an opportunity to talk with their elected officials about legislation and voice concerns about budget cuts. Tickets for the breakfast are $30 each. Following the breakfast, Deputy Attorney General Howard Wayne will lead a workshop on grassroots advocacy efforts. For more information or to purchase tickets call (760) 737-3990 ext. 82 or www.ddpn.org.

This year's breakfast is sponsored by National Certified, Inc. Insurance Brokers, the honorary chair is District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and the keynote speaker will be Shirley Dove, a parent advocate whose talk will be about preserving the Lanterman Act. The Lanterman Act was passed in 1969 and gives people with disabilities the rights to services and supports that enable them to live a more independent life. Last year, sections of the Lanterman Act were changed affecting services offered for people with disabilities. Dove advocated for the passage of the original Lanterman Act and knows firsthand what it was like trying to get help for her daughter prior to the passage of this landmark legislation.
